Dice-roller
« on: October 04, 2011, 04:49:54 AM »
I've started writing some code for a dice-roller that will not only roll dice using the SW rules for the wild die, but also automatically send an email to two recipients (player and GM).

This would allow us to roll dice that are mutually verifiable. Obviously, it would be easier to just have Jason roll the dice on his desk, but technology=cool.  ;D

However, it will need hosting and some mailserver authentication. Jason, if you have webspace and some knowledge or inquisitiveness about this sort of thing, we can perhaps park that on your server.

Cheers,

Michael

If he doesn't, talk to Vong over on the Pit. He will hook you up I'm sure.

I've got some knowledge.

If you can give me directions, I can probably do it.  8)

Cool!

I've not got it fully worked out yet (and there will likely be some bugs that will probably need fixing), but it should just involve the uploading of two .php files, and the enabling in your server settings.

As to the latter, I really don't know what exactly needs to happen, but I'll research it.

I'm definitely not a web designer or anything. I've learned some rudimentary things and every project, such as this or the nav computer, has been a learning experience.

Anyway, when I have something I'll be in touch about it.

Okay, the dice-roller is live.

Please use this link.

Please give it a thorough testing. I'm curious if you will think this is a worthwhile little tool to use in our games. Of course we'll have to get Endless' email address if we want to send him the dice-roller results. I wonder if the forum's PM engine can be sent an email message, which then gets forwarded... but, right now, it just works with regular email.

Edit Damn, it is supposed to be a 300x200px pop-up, but I can't get a pop-up link to work in the forum. Oh well.

By my edit, I didn't mean to say that it doesn't work. It just can't be made into a pop-up link from a forum post. I'd be very curious to see read what you guys think of it and its possible application in our game.
