Special Abilities:
Ambidextrous: Jeaubert is equally comfortable using either hand, suffering no off-hand penalties.
Technical Aptitude: Anomids have a natural aptitude for repairing and maintaining technological items. At the time of character creation only, Anomid characters get 6D bonus skill dice (in addition to the normal 7D skill dice). These bonus dice can be applied to any Technical skill, and Anomid characters can place up to 3D in any beginning Technical skill. These bonus skill dice can be applied to non-Technical skills, but at half value (i.e., it requires 2D to advance a non-Technical skill 1D).
Languages: Time to use: One round. This skill specialization is used to understand and “speak” the unique Anomid form of sign language. Only Anomids and other beings with six digits per hand can learn to “speak” this language. The skill costs the normal amount for specializations, but all characters trying to interpret Anomid sign language without the specialization have their difficulty increased by two levels because of the complexity and intricacy of the language.
Wealthy: Anomids have one of the richer societies in the Empire. Beginning characters should be granted a bonus of at least 2,000 credits.
Pacifists: Anomids tend to be pacifistic, urging conversation and understanding over conflict.
Background:
Jeaubert Gylson is living the dream.
A slicer of considerable skill, Jeaubert has thrown in with a crew of cargo haulers aboard The Smoking Blaster, a good-size freighter. Part of the crew for six months now, Jeaubert has earned his berth on board by not only maintaining the ship’s computers, but also by providing fake IDs when necessary, and by serving as a copilot. Jeaubert is not a typical Anomid; his race is predominately pacifistic, choosing to urge diplomacy and dialogue to resolve conflicts rather than violence. Jeaubert, however, has a different viewpoint, and has found himself to be quite the natural in the ways of combat—with blasters, blades, or even no weapon at all. Choosing to leave home rather than constantly argue his viewpoint to friends and family, Jeaubert has found his niche with this freighter crew. So far their jobs have been mostly on the level; however, the captain discovered that a previous owner had installed a couple smuggling compartments in one of the cabins, and this has provided a way for the crew to make a few extra credits above and beyond their ‘on the books’ revenue.
Physical Description: Jeaubert Gylson is a tall, lean, Anomid male. Although he possesses several sets of bulky, concealing clothing typical of his people, Jeaubert usually wears garments that are less cumbersome and revealing, showing off the ruddy tones of his skin that mark him as one of the growing number of non-conformists on his homeworld. Jeaubert has long, black wispy hair surrounding the bald crown of his head, large silvery eyes, and hand-sized, leaf-like ears pressed back along the sides of his head. As Anomids are born without vocal cords, Jeaubert wears a matte black vocalizer which covers his nose and mouth.
