Introduction Thread
« on: September 28, 2011, 03:36:27 PM »
I'll be the first!

I'm Jason and I'm also the owner of the site. I got my handle "Endless Flight" from a trade paperback of the Hawkman comic that DC Comics published in the Naughts.

I've been gaming for about 25 years. I tend to like games from the 80s. My favorites include Star Wars, DC Heroes and Marvel Super Heroes. I also like most versions of D&D up until 4e.

I've owned two RPG-related sites in the past, both play-by-post communities. I enjoyed it very much and wanted to start up another one, so here we are.

Hi Jason,

I'm Michael, and got my handle from a character in an old paperback novel for Warhammer Fantasy, whose name is a pun on an old British politician.

I've been gaming for only about 20 years, and only minimally over the past 15. My favorites are Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and Star Wars D6.

I run a homebrew web-assisted play-by-email Warhammer game, which I enjoy a great deal. I saw your post on the Rancor Pit and thought I'd drop by. I'm interested in playing, though I've not played in a play-by-post format yet. I'm about to poke around the site to familiarize myself a little more, but I thought I'd just announce myself first.

Cheers!

Hi, Michael!

Welcome to the site. It should be easy enough to get around, at least compared to the Rancor Pit.  ;)

Play-by-post is somewhat similar to play-by-email, so you shouldn't have much difficulty at all adapting.

I imagine the pace of play-by-post to be a little faster, because (my) PbEM requires the constant intercession and editing of the GM. If I understand it correctly on PbP, you let the PCs post and let those posts stand for everyone to see - which is more like the open conversation at the table, just a bit slower.

My format has somewhat different gameplay implications, but this seems a lot easier on you, which is good!  ;)

Yep, you got the basic gist of it. The GM usually sets up the scene and then the players post and so on. The players can go back and edit posts if need be, if the GM allows it.

I'm Kevin. My handle is from my favorite SW D6 character-my first Jedi, Skyler Masters. I have RPed off and on for about 22 years. The majority of that has been in PbP games on the Pit, which is where I found out about this site...although if memory serves I may have been on another Endless Flight site before...but it has been years. On that site I ran an Old Republic Jedi assigned to a Marine unit. Didn't get too far with it but enjoyed the concept.

My favorite rpg has always been SW D6...but I have enjoyed DC Heroes, Shadowrun, Boot Hill, and a home brew amalgam of DC and Marvel Heroes.

A quick question: Is there any chance of getting a Sentbox added to the Messages section? I would like to try and post my character sheet tonight, but with my phone the only way I possibly can is to copy and paste from my PM to EF. No big deal if we cannot, but then my sheet has to wait til tomorrow afternoon.

Damn, is it just me or are we all a bunch of old farts?

For my part, I'm wondering if tabletop roleplaying can even scratch the gaming itch anymore. I like the written rpg (pbem, and now pbp) a lot because it really gives you the opportunity for description and detail.

Kevin, I looked at your stats on the Rancor, and - wow, you've been there a long time, with 7000+ posts to your name. That's pretty epic. Do you even tabletop roleplay anymore, or is this basically how you get your roleplaying in these days?

I'm Ben. This is also my handle on the Rancor Pit. I just think the term Blue Glowie is hilarious. I've RP'ed pretty consistently for the last 15+ years, but I'm not an old fart...yet.

I've only seriously played various editions of D&D and Star Wars. And I try to play with friends online over Skype every week, but apparently my gaming itch is so strong I need other ways to scratch it...!

Where are you guys located? I'm in Portland, OR, so that puts me in the Pacific Time Zone.

I see that Endless is in New Hampshire, so I doubt we're going to get a lot of late nights out of him.

You're on pretty late, Ben, if you're not on the West Coast.

Old farts? Speak for yourself. I just turned 40 in August, and I still have people (predominately females) telling me they thought I was 27-29 years old. That's right...I'm a BAAAAAAAAAAD mammajamma!!! ROFLMAO

I'm in Southwest Michigan personally. And yes, my roleplaying fix only gets taken care of through PbP games. I don't agree that tabletop gaming doesn't cut it though; not that I really get to do so anymore, but anytime I'm back home, if my friends can get together, we strike up a tabletop game. Nothing beats the camaraderie and instant finding out if your lightsaber did or did not cut through that droid's neck...

Wow, you sounds like a fellow with a red convertible and a 24-year old impressionable blonde in the passenger seat. More strength to you!
